Unexpected Benefit To New Diet

Fair warning, poop discussion ahead ...
First, let's talk about the diet. Keep in mind that I'm using this in the original definition - that which I eat - rather than the now commonplace definition of "fad eating style that will be dropped once I lose the weight".

I'm eating "Paleo-ish". Now, don't get me wrong, I don't go in for the whole "Eat like cave-men did, it's healthier" aspect. Nor do I necessarily agree with the focus on organic.

However, the underlying approach is still usable, and that's a focus on a higher fat and protein diet, with a restriction on carbs.

Carbs are not bad. Neither is fat. Both provide energy in different ways. Carbs tend to be fast burning and give you spurts of energy. Fats tend to be slower burning and give you a more even energy supply. Carbs, with the exception of fiber, also convert to glycol (sugar) - this is why carbs tend to give you spike energy. Heck, one of the major sources of carbs is sugar.

Once again, let me stress that I am not saying carbs are the enemy. In fact, my diet calls for about 25% of my intake to be carbs. I chose to go for the higher fat diet, however, for a couple of reasons.
  1. More consistent energy
  2. Easier to stick to
  3. Less concern with diabetes, given my family's history
#3 is the big reason for myself.

Anyway, suffice to say, lots of salad and meat lately.

So, what's the unexpected benefit? More healthy BMs.

Prior to recently, without getting too graphic, my BMs have been ... well, less solid that they probably should be.

The past couple of days? I first thought I was giving anal birth to Dewayne Johnson, then realized that was just the normal sensation of a regular, healthy BM - I just haven't had one in a long time.

Artist's Depiction of the Event

Overall, I've only been eating differently for a little over a week. I'm slowly losing weight, and I think I have more energy. Assuming things continue to go well, I think I can make this "healthy" thing actually stick.

... That was not a challenge, Murphy
