My New Digital Overlord
And no, I don't mean 18 ...
Finally got the Withings Body Cardio. It still says I'm fat, but now it says so in a high tech way!
Lookit the l'i'l guy:
This thing will take your weight and calculate body fat % (+/- 1.5% ... ish), bone mass, muscle mass, water mass, heart rate, and something called Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV). That last one is apparently an estimate of how quickly blood travels through your body, which is directly correlated to cardiovascular health. Higher PWV generally indicates high blood pressure and cholesterol, lower the same in reverse.
Mine is apparently "normal" at 6.6 m/s.
Most of these are just estimates, but they are relatively consistent estimates, and that's the key. I don't particularly care if my BF% is off by a couple of percent, as long as it's the same couple of percent each time.
The cool thing about this model is that it's WiFi enabled, so I don't need my phone on me to track data, and there is a web console for easier viewing of data:
Overall I'm quite pleased. It doesn't work quite as well on the overly plush carpet that's in our bathroom (seriously 1970s, what the hell?), so it's currently in the kitchen. Once we either replace the carpet with tile or pick up a sheet of plywood, it'll move back to the bathroom. Less chance of traumatizing Yajirobi that way.
